Man! We are having the first two of four home study "interviews" THIS WEEK. We cannot believe it! The other agency that we considered using made it clear that it would be late September/ October before we could get the process going! After weighing the pros and cons (and fees) of both agencies we decided on Adoption Home Studies, Inc. The social worker who we will be working with is so friendly and down to earth. When I talked to her on the phone, she really made me feel alot more relaxed about the whole process. She was so helpful, willing to work around our schedules, and is eager to speed the process along for us as well. She actually wanted to get started this week because she is also a school social worker and it would be easier for her if we got the two long interviews done before she returns to school. I am actually excited, and still a bit nervous about it all. Josiah and Isaac also have to be interviewed. Please pray for it all to go smoothly.
Peruvian Adoption:
After we complete four interviews and submit a ton of documents including back ground checks, tax info, and a million other minute details of our lives, the social worker creates a document to submit to the USCIS. They will review our entire lives and decide on our case. If all goes well, a packet of necessary documents about us is sent to the MIMDES in Peru. If all goes well there, we are then able to begin viewing a monthly listing of available children to adopt. They are usually older children, but occasionally there are younger ones as well. That has nothing to do with the number of children who need homes! There are an estimated 570,000 orphans in Peru! But because of Peru being a part of the Hague convention, there are very strict guidelines to follow in order to adopt. There is an orphanage in Peru that is doing an incredible work. They are rescuing so many babies and children! They find babies by dumpsters and kids on the streets and bring them in to care for them. They are given the Gospel, and are taken care of with love. It is an incredible website with lots of pictures of precious Peruvian babies and children.

Some people view the waiting child list for months and months, or even years, before they find a child they believe is for them. But when the adoptive parents decide to, they can ask to look into the file of one of the children (or sibling group). They have a certain amount of time to decide if they would like to adopt the child. If they do- the group overseeing those affairs in Peru meets and decides whether the parents desiring to adopt are the best match for that child or not.
If MIMDES decide in favor, then the adoptive parents/ and or family prepare to travel to Peru in the next couple of months after that. From what I have read, and learned from my program director (these things are subject to delays, etc) the adoption process takes about 2 weeks in Peru, and the visa process can take a week- but usually takes two more. That is about 4 weeks in total. At this point, we plan to go as a family to Peru together for at least the first two weeks. Both parents are required to be in Peru for two weeks. If necessary, after that, one parent can come home. Danny may come back after that, with Josiah and Isaac. My mom has agreed to come and stay at our house with Josiah and Isaac while Danny is at work. My dad and step mom have agreed to come to Peru (possibly with us for the entirety) and stay with me, Amaus, and our new adopted child, until the visa is approved. We are praying for favor in that process and that it will be completed speedily!!
After that, the adoptive parents can come home with their new child to love! There are some visits that take place, given by a social worker every 6 months for a couple of years (required by Hague countries) to check on the child's adjustment.
