Jungle Fun!

This morning we headed out to go to a butterfly farm on the edge of the jungle. We went to an animal rescue center where they had some cool animals that the boys got to hold. We also went to see a part of the Bora tribe. It was a pretty good distance by boat to where they live. They are accustomed to tourists, and put on a little show for them. They also sell some things they make. But they do actually live in the jungle, hunt, fish, and live in open huts that are on stilts.




We had to take a moto taxi to another part of town and then walk a bit when the road ended.





It was a sort of fruit, vegetables, and fish market.








Yes. In the background they are selling some cayman meat, and the other thing is a kind of rodent they hunt and eat.





Tis time of year, when the river is overflowing, lots of things are flooded and they make little make shift bridges to walk across. Tis was quite the adventure with four kids, but we made it.


We have seen lots of people in these tiny canoes.

I almost cried. We were just leaving and my camera did not work for the entire time.
Thankfully, Leslie had hers...if anyone knows what is up with my camera. Please. Help me out.



The animal rescue center was flooded too, so we had to walk on the same sort of bridges.


There were monkeys in the trees.


They would run on the little bridges and come up to us. We all got to hold this sweet little monkey.





A really strange Amazon river turtle, that would bite.


Anaconda!


The boys got to hold a sloth! It was high in a tree, and a man jumped in the water, swam across tot he tree, climbed the tree, and got it for us! Lol Crazy!

This is the chief, who told us a little history of the tribe. He said they moved here from the Columbian/Peruvian border, because another tribe was killing their people. The chief's grandfather moved them here then. He said that the other tribe was killing and eating their people if they didn't have a bone through their nose, (like a piercing), because they said they were monkeys. Whoa. More of the Bora tribe still lives in another location and they have 8000 people!

They did a dance for us, and then made us dance with them. Lol Josiah and Isaac refused.











Leelee and one of the women. They obviously don't where these festive clothes for day in day out living. In fact, I think they run around naked because when our boat ran up some of me took off running (in the buff) and went and put on these festive skirts and tops.


Camila leaned over and gave this lady a kiss.

There were butterflies everywhere!






They go and search for butterfly eggs every morning and put them in vials.


This is where they hatch the caterpillars and wait on them to build cocoons, or become chrysalis.


They had many other animals around. There were some angry monkeys who don't like kids were in a cage. Evidently the people at the butterfly farm figured that out after they bit a few kids. They would scream and scream at Amaus. Crazy. They must have had a bad experience with kids or something! They had some other monkeys running around though.
