Florida camping weekend

If you would like to read about our family and our journey to adopt, click here.

This past weekend our family traveled down to Destin, Florida (right outside of it, anyway) to Topsail Hill State Park. It turned out to be the perfect getaway and set up for our family. The tent camping area is new. It just opened this summer, and it is super clean and spacey. The tent sites were well spread out and they were surrounded by lots of under brush and pine trees which made them feel very secluded. They were very close to some new, clean bathrooms and shower houses. I trolley ran to and from the beach every hour, which was a half mile from the campsites. Turns out, we really enjoyed the walk and ended up doing that more than riding the trolley. The beaches were awesome. They were private to the state park, which meant right over 3 miles of practically empty, immacualte beaches. Wonderful. At the busiest, there would be about 50 peopple spread out over the beach, and at times only 10-20. The kids had a blast. It is much easier to let them run freely and keep up with them on a less crowded beach. We did a lot of exploring and walking back and forth. We did a good bit of sand digging and building, and also enjoyed riding the waves in on our boogie boards. Good fun. Our friends Lance and Denae went along with us- and we all had a grand time!
We were also able to build a campfire early in the mornings and the evenings as it turned a little chilly during those times. All in all it was wonderfully refreshing and we will be heading back there in the future! For a frugal family- it is a great bargain! Only $25 a night, and if you're into cooking your own campfire food- or even sandwiches, you are looking at a very cheap and excellent weekend (or more) away!
I didn't get any pics of the actual beach- because I was a little scared I would get sand all in my camera. However, there are a few I-phone pics I'll try to upload asap.
